After working as an BG extra for just 5 weeks, I am SO addicted already to reviewing job notices, submitting for jobs, getting the call for work, and the very special high of getting an unsolicited request for my availability to work on a show. Means my face and name are getting out there to casting directors and they are calling me! That is just the coolest feeling. My adrenaline is pumping at extra high levels these days. I'm going away for five days and am having deep visceral symptoms of withdrawals now that I can't submit for work these next five days. Seems like every job notice that has come out for work this week are jobs I WANT!! I got a call today, unsolicited, for BG work tomorrow on The Good Wife...a show I LOVE and have been submitting for work every time a notice for work comes up. I had not gotten chosen yet, and then to get this call and not be able to accept because I'm traveling tomorrow is such a BUMMER. I'm very excited about my trip, going to Denver to spend the long weekend with very long time good friends for our annual Fools for Love get together, but it is still SO HARD for me to decline on this work request. Did not expect to have this kind of intensity about this work. I'm totally committed 100% to making the most of my new "career."
A dear former colleague of mine is about to take the exam to qualify for the ABPP credential as a psychologist. Kind of like High High Honors as a psychologist, a very respected credentialing milestone. That was a goal of mine as well when I had goals as a professional psychologist. Now my big professional goal is to get a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) card so I go from non-Union to Union. It's not easy but I'm determined. The pay is so much better and they offer health care, pensions, and better gigs--many that offer residuals (meaning you get paid every time a commercial or show airs for the life of the show or commercial) which would be fantastic. If a show gets syndicated and plays on reruns, you get paid each time forever.

I'm so glad to know you are doing this and want to see you on T.V. I hope you will tell us when and what to watch!
ReplyDeleteIs there a way to sign up to follow the blog, meaning a way where I will be notified when you put up a new post? I see something called Live Bookmarks but I don't know what that is.

The only way I know for following my blog is to download an RSS feed app on your computer. You can buy one from iTunes for 99 cents that let's you follow up to 20 subscriptions. It's very easy to do. After the RSS feed is installed, just scroll to the bottom of my blog and click on the follow post link. If you figure out another way to follow, pls let me know. Thanks!
